MTRC has deferred its redevelopment proposal

MTRC has deferred its redevelopment proposal for converting a bus terminus in Tsing Yi for residential use in the face of mounting opposition from nearby residents and district board members. MTRC had hoped to build two 45-storey residential towers on the bus terminus next to the completed housing estate Tierra Verde, above Tsing Yi Station, jointly built by the company and Cheung Kong (1 HK). The approval, which had been rejected in 1996, was originally scheduled for discussion today at the Town Planning Board for approval. Residents of Tierra Verde, and Kwai Chung and Tsing Yi district board members strongly opposed the plan, saying the MTRC had not mentioned the redevelopment when it launched sales of Tierra Verde two years ago. They said the proposed development might block the sea views of some of Tierra Verde's units, which also would affect the property values.
