Four banks beat estimates

UWCCB (2826 ‘Shi Hua’) and Chinatrust Commercial Bank (2815 ‘Zhong Xin Yin’) were the most profitable financial institutions for the year ended Dec 2000. EPS came in at NT$2.53 for UWCCB, with NT$2.3 for Chinatrust. With the latest accounting period being for 18 months, Chiao Tung Bank (2824 ‘Jiao Yin’) and Taipei Bank (2830 ‘Bei Yin’) topped the sector as most profitable banks, earning NT$3.70 and NT$3.33 respectively. These are the only four banks, at this stage, which have posted earnings in excess of estimations from the beginning of 2000.
