Overdue loan ratio gets soothed
Many new banks are reported to have written off large amounts of debt during Dec. 2000,
reducing their overdue loan ratios. Of the thirteen banks which announced ratios
yesterday, Bank Sinopac (2839 Hua Xin Yin), Taishin International Bank (2844
Tai Xin Yin) and Fubon Commercial Bank (2842 Fu Bang Yin) held the
lowest ratios of 1.04%, 2.27% and 2.31% respectively. Baodao Commercial Bank (5817
Bao Dao Yin) posted the largest decrease of 1.25% YoY to 3.8% after writing
off NT$350m in bad debts and calling back NT$1.15 billion in overdue loans.
