Overdue loan ratio gets soothed

Many new banks are reported to have written off large amounts of debt during Dec. 2000, reducing their overdue loan ratios. Of the thirteen banks which announced ratios yesterday, Bank Sinopac (2839 ‘Hua Xin Yin’), Taishin International Bank (2844 ‘Tai Xin Yin’) and Fubon Commercial Bank (2842 ‘Fu Bang Yin’) held the lowest ratios of 1.04%, 2.27% and 2.31% respectively. Baodao Commercial Bank (5817 ‘Bao Dao Yin’) posted the largest decrease of 1.25% YoY to 3.8% after writing off NT$350m in bad debts and calling back NT$1.15 billion in overdue loans.
