Direct Transportation Links message conflict
Talks between the two parties on both sides of the strait have been reportedly
continuing. Two separate meetings were held recently, with a Chinese representative and a
delegate of Taiwans opposition lawmakers holding a meeting, and another meeting
being held between the transportation sectors of both sides. Chinas Foreign Ministry
spokesman called on Taipei to permit direct links, while Taiwans Mainland Affairs
Committee (MAC) and Ministry of Transportation head publicly said that direct links need
be discussed by the two governments and the two Committees (MAC and Chinas
Cross-strait Relationships Committee). He also stated links should be deemed special
international routes. We remain bullish and believe that, despite the noises and
conflicts involved in the varied messages sent by both sides, links may come along soon.
