CD-R makers release gloomy January results
Taiwan's two top CD-R makers Ritek (2349 'Lai De') and CMC (2323 'Zhong
Huan') respectively booked Jan. revenues of NT$1.3b and NT$0.98b, reflecting 15.5% and
5.7% MoM declines, well below YoY declines of 31% and 35%. Prodisc's (2396 'Jing Die')
revenues for the first month were down 26% MoM to NT$405m. Gigastorage Corp. (2406 'Guo
Shuo') was the only CD-R firm to report monthly revenue growth (8.9%) to NT$50m. Based on
CD-R revenues in Jan., we do not see CD-R prices rising and expect them to stabilize. We
expect CD-R oversupply this year will continue to hold prices down.
