MSCI delays re-evaluation of Taiwan weighting

  • A spokesman for Morgan Stanley Capital International Inc. (MSCI) yesterday said that the company would delay re-evaluation of its Taiwan weighting. MSCI has announced its intention to raise the weighting to 100% from 80%.

  • The re-evaluation was originally scheduled to take place in late May, but has now been put back to late June.

  • The spokesman cites plans to change the free float methodology as the reason for the delay. He stressed that politics had nothing to do with it and went on to praise Taiwan's plans to liberalize its capital markets.
