Quanta revenue up 35% MoM in February
Quanta's (2382 'Guang Da') chairman confirmed February revenues may
reach NT$8.0b, reflecting 35% MoM and 36% YoY growth. Increased Dell orders and a rising
shipment ratio on TDS (Taiwan Direct Shipment) are behind the sterling performance.
2001 NB PC shipment is targeted to reach 3.5-4.0m units. Dell orders are
expected to account for around 50% of total shipment, up from 30% last year. Quanta is
also actively fighting for Dell's desk-top PC and low-end server orders. Dell will begin
outsourcing desk-top PCs to Taiwan makers this year.
Apart from Quanta, Acer (2306 'Hong Dian'), Mitac (2315 'Shen Da') and
First International (2319 'Da Zhong') are also potential candidates for Dell's OEM
desk-top and server orders.
Quanta has declined to comment on market rumours of Nokia handset
orders, but it has indicated that handset shipment should be around 4m this year. The
Shanghai plant will begin operation in March, earlier than originally scheduled, focusing
on motherboards and PC frames.
Arima (2381 'Hua Yu') expects February NB PC sales to double to around
NT$3.0b (80k units) from January's NT$1.55b (50k units).
