Askey breaks into US market

• Askey (2366 'Ya Xu') has received cable modem orders from an undisclosed US cable equipment company for the first time. Since the US commands around 60% of the global market, we consider this positive news for Askey.

• Shipment of the order could start as soon as Cable Labs completes its certification of Askey's cable modem in March. It is still too early to predict shipment volume.

• Askey has also decided to set up a transmission equipment plant in Shanghai next month to reduce production costs. Production could start as early as July.

• Askey was the biggest ADSL producer in Taiwan in 2000 and expects to ship 1.8m units in 2001 as demand continues for upgrading to ADSL from analog modem.
