ACM tops league in February handset shipment

• Acer Communications and Multimedia (ACM, 2352 'Ming Ji') clinched No.1 spot for handset shipment in February with 300k units.

• GVC (2322 'Zhi Fu') got second place with 100k, thanks to increased orders from China. Compal (2324 'Ren Bao') reported shipment of 20k-30k units. All handset makers expect shipment to increase in March.

• Acer Inc. (2306 'Hong Dian') shipped only 450k units in the first two months, but expects to ship around 400k units in March. We are doubtful as to whether Acer can achieve its 2001 shipment forecast of 10m, as shipment in 1Q01 is estimated at a disappointing 1m or less units.
