ACM launches ADSL router
Although Acer Communications and Multimedia (ACM, 2352 'Ming Ji') failed
to win any of Chunghwa Telecom's (2412 'Chung Hua Dian') ADSL outsourcing contract, the
company has announced it has received orders for its new ADSL router from New Century
InfoComm (unlisted), one of the new fixed-line operators. Trial shipment starts in March.
ACM is touting the ISDN function on its ADSL, particularly for the
European market.
The company expects ADSL router shipment in 2001 to be around 200,000
units. We hold that shipment will very much depend on the progress of 'last-mile'
construction of New Century InfoComm's telecom network.
