Acer to try its hand at GSM module

• Acer Inc. (2306 'Hong Dian') has decided to produce its own GSM modules rather than purchase from Ambit (2386 'Guo Dian').

• We are surprised by the move as Acer and Ambit belong to the same business group (Acer holds a 25% stake in Ambit). Moreover, Ambit is an industry leader in the module sector and has developed the required handset module technology.

• The market suspects that Ambit was unwilling to lower its price per Acer's request.
