Changes to MSCI Taiwan weighting ushers in 33 new companies
On 19 May, Morgan Stanley Capital International (MSCI) announced changes
to its provisional indices, as discussed in our Market Focus on Wednesday, 16 May.
Taiwan's weighting in the MSCI AWCI (All Country World Index) has been
downgraded to 0.44% from 0.69%.
The free float coverage of the provisional MSCI Taiwan has bee upgraded
to 73%, a full 15 percentage point increase. In real terms this translates as an influx of
33 new companies into MSCI Taiwan. Numbering among them are VIA (2388 'Wei Sheng'), Compeq
(2313 'Hua Tong'), CMC (2323 'Zhong Huan'), Arima (2381 'Hua Yu'), D-Link (2332 'You
Xun'), Macronix (2337 'Wang Hong), China Airlines (2610 'Hua Hang'), Chiao Tunk Bank
(2824 'Jiao Yin'), Bank SinoPac (2839 'Hua Xin Yin'), Taishin Bank (2844 'Tai Xin Yin')
and President Chain Stores (2912 'Tong Yi Chao').
Six companies have been removed from the index, among them Lien Hwa
(1229 'Lian Hua'), Taiwan Pulp & Paper (1902 'Tai Zhi') and ASE (2311 'Ri Yue Guang').
