Taiwan holds 47% world market share in LCD

• Development: Taiwan LCD monitor shipment was reported at 2.4m units in 1H01, versus 2.7m units in 2000. Taiwan LCD monitor output accounts for 47% of the worldwide market share.

• Analysis: LCD monitor makers Compal and ACM were ranked as the top two, followed by Pro Arch, Amtran and AOC (all based in Taiwan). Increased LCD monitor output and widening gross margins boosted sales and profitability for these Taiwan monitor makers as LCD outperformed CRT production.

• Primasia View: Taiwan LCD monitor makers will benefit from stronger LCD monitor demand in 2H01,which is prompting reiteration of buys on 2324.TT and 5405.TT.
