VIA to pursue China market for CPUs
Development: Reports indicate that VIA will use its C3 CPU to provide
low-cost PCs for brokerage, corporate and educational markets in the PRC.
Analysis: This marketing strategy demonstrates VIAs geographical
focus for its CPU biz. Growth drivers incl. China's national policy emphasizing
computerization coupled with low PC and Internet penetration rates.
Primasia View: We expect CPU biz to account for less than 10% of VIA's
total revenue this year. As contributions from this area have exponential potential, we
believe this strategy may fuel future growth for VIA.
