Macronix reports strong 1H01 EPS

• Development: Macronix posted 1H01 EPS of NT$0.72, beating TSMC’s EPS of NT$0.51 and UMC’s EPS of NT$0.40. The firm indicated confidence in generating positive pretax profits for all four quarters in 2001.

• Analysis: Firm expects sequential growth in 2H01 quarterly revenues due to increased shipments to Nintendo.

• Primasia View: We believe monthly revenue for Macronix has bottomed out in July, implying that downside should be limited on shares.
