PEDAC lifting “go slow” policy towards China

  • Development: President Chen announced Taiwan’s “go slow” policy towards mainland China should be replaced with active and efficient management of economic ties to maintain island’s global competitiveness.

  • Analysis: The Presidential Economic Development Advisory Council proposed lifting the “go slow” policy and the government is likely to accept the proposal, as President Chen had asked the Cabinet in July not to veto the advisory panel’s proposals.

  • Primasia View: Relaxation of investment policy towards China would contribute greatly towards lifting investment sentiment and would present a long-term solution to structural problems that have been surfacing in the economy.
