VIA shareholders to issue GDR of US$42m

• Development: Ten of VIA’s current shareholders will issue 10.1m shares in GDRs to raise US$42m.

• Analysis: VIA’s lead has narrowed over its rival competitors, such as Intel and SiS (2363.TT), in the battle for P4 chipset market. However, competition is keen, and VIA is certain to lose market share in global PC chipsets.

• Primasia View: As VIA’s market share continues to weaken we believe the firm’s share price will have limited upside potential.
