Micron may sue Taiwan & Korea for dumping

• Development: Micron Technology (US), no. 2 global DRAM play, is expected to launch an anti-dumping lawsuit against Korean and Taiwanese DRAM manufacturers in early Oct. Taiwan Semiconductor Industry Association (TSIA) is gathering together Taiwan’s DRAM manufacturers for discussions on 13 Sept.

• Analysis: Micron took the same legal measures last year in order to protect itself from competition. Last month, both Hynix and Micron dumped DRAM into the spot and contract markets, contributing to depressed DRAM prices. Although the case is unlikely to get very far, in the short term the local DRAM sector may be affected by negative sentiment.

• Primasia View: We expect the impact to be limited over the long term. We are Neutral on the DRAM sector.
