US event having greater impact than Nari

• Development: Taiwan’s downstream notebook PC, TFT-LCD and monitor makers indicate the impact on production from Typhoon Nari will be limited. The two-day production halt and shipment delays will be made up in the remainder of Sept.

• Analysis: The attack in the US will have a negative impact on downstream makers as US exports account for 40% of all shipments. We are doubtful about seeing a pick up in seasonal demand for PC and LCD monitors in 4Q01 and also expect recovery to be slower than previously expected.

• Primasia View: We are in the process of revising down our shipments for both the notebook PC and LCD monitor sectors in 4Q01 and 2002.
