Amtran expands LCD monitor capacity

  • Development: Amtran has transformed its remaining CRT production line into an LCD monitor line, which now total six. From Sept. to Oct., the firm held 5 lines for LCD monitors with monthly capacity reaching 80k. Amtran expects Sept. revenues to hit NT$800m with LCD monitor shipments of 70k (a record high this year) and 10k for CRT monitors. Firm indicated it will finalize capacity expansion plans in China by year-end.

  • Analysis: Amtran has continued to enlarge its LCD monitor capacity from the beginning of this year in an effort to catch up with the sector’s rapid growth trend. As a result, LCD monitor sales will account for 75% of total sales in 2001, up from 55% last year.

  • Primasia View: We are positive on the firm’s solid financial position and see the current share price level as attractive.
